Suisun Valley is located in Solano County just a bit north and east of Vallejo, just south of Napa, and lying within a belt of cool air coming in from two bays, San Pablo Bay and Suisun Bay. Suisun Valley received its official designation as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1982 which encompasses 15,000 acres, of which an estimated 3,000 acres are planted with vineyards. In 1983 Suisun Valley AVA was included in the North Coast AVA which combines Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, parts of Lake and Marin counties, Green Valley AVA and Suisun Valley AVA. Roughly six miles long and two miles across, Suisun Valley remains a superb wine-growing region.
Suisun Valley is near and dear to our hearts here at Bask. Babcock Ranch, the source of our grapes, is where we grew up and where we learned the beauty in the land and the payoff of hard work. Babcock Ranch is located in the southern end of Suisun Valley. The fog stops right at the hills bordering the vineyard allowing us to take advantage of the cool air, but also gaining precious sunlight that helps ripen the fruit to full maturity and that sunshine flows right into the finished product.
